I recently auditioned for a lead role in Gilbert & Sullivan's Patience. I got one, but not the one I was after. It's a fine line between being fed up 'cos I didn't get the part I really wanted and being grateful I at least got a lead role even if it's a lesser one.

It's a bit like coming second, isn't it? You're still there at the top but you didn't come out best...
So what's the part, then?
I'm the Major. Still part of the trio of the Duke/Colonel/Major so I have two collective pieces to sing with the odd solo line. And knowing how the Director has cast the other two roles I can see why he did it. And it's a great piece for hamming it up, so it'll all be alright in the end! :)
